Cozy Jungle Hut in Blender 3D: A Fun Blend of 2D & 3D Magic

Hey everyone, it’s Kevin. Today, I want to share a project that brings together two things I absolutely love: combining 2D and 3D art in Blender! This time, it’s a Cozy Jungle Hut, complete with Grease Pencil elements to give it that warm, stylized touch. If you’ve been following my work, you might recognize the vibe from a project I did a couple of years ago—and if you’re curious, I’ve linked the deep dive video on that below.

But first, let’s talk about what makes this project special and how you can follow along. No need to stress about taking detailed notes; I’ve covered everything in my YouTube video, which you can find linked right here on the blog.

Why Grease Pencil?

Grease Pencil is one of the most powerful tools in Blender, allowing you to draw and animate directly in the 3D viewport. It’s perfect for hybrid workflows like this, where we combine traditional 3D modeling with illustrated details. Whether you’re adding outlines, textures, or entire elements, this feature makes Blender incredibly versatile—and it’s one of my favorite tools.

So, if you’re into creating 3D models with a hand-drawn, artistic flair, you’re in the right place.

What to Expect in the Video

In the video, I break down the entire process, including:

  • Modeling the Hut: We’ll start with basic shapes and build out the structure, support posts, and details like doors, windows, and a roof.

  • Shading: I’ll show you how to set up a simple toon shader to give the hut that stylized, illustrated look.

  • Grease Pencil Magic: From the grass roof to decorative details, we’ll use Grease Pencil to add personality to the scene.

  • Optional Extras: I also share some fun details, like adding rocks, foliage, and animated elements, to bring everything to life.

Who Is This For?

If you have some experience with Blender, you’ll feel right at home following along. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner, though—you’ll still be able to pick up tips, and you can always pause the video if needed. For the best experience, I recommend using a tablet for the Grease Pencil part, but a mouse will do just fine.

To make it easier, I’ve included the project file for download. Feel free to use it to practice or customize your own version.
